In the early 1900s these volcanic islands in the South Pacific were dominated by English and French plantations with main crops of cotton, coco and coconuts. But by their natural ability for cultivation, they soon reclaimed their lands and markets.
The Gospel reached two separate cultures here, Paama and Southeast Ambrym speakers through one missionary family. But after several cultural revolutions, the freedom and truth of Christianity was marred by the bondage of animistic worldviews.
